1373504 Paper-making apparatus H F ARLEDTER 29 Oct 1971 [30 Oct 1970] 50502/71 Heading D2A A paper-making machine comprises a twin wire forming section merging into a dewatering section including dewatering boxes having perforated convex walls arranged to lead the wires in a serpentine path. The wires 1, 2 first extend over suction boxes forming the base of a stock bath and the dewatering section includes foils 9, 10, the dewatering boxes 5 to 8 and press cylinders 11, alternate boxes being subject to compressed air or vacuum, a grooved cylinder 12 and a suction cylinder 13, and a suction cylinder 14 and a press cylinder 15. The formed sheet is transferred from the wire 2 by a pick-up roller 16 to drying cylinders. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the wire 1 is replaced by two wires which extend with the wire 2 vertically and horizontally, respectively, the horizontally extending wire also extending round a drying cylinder fed with hot air. The vertically extending wire and the wire 2 extend between foils and boxes, a cylinder supplied with compressed air leading the vertically extending wire away from the wire 2 and ensuring that the paper web is retained on the wire 2. The horizontally extending wire and the wire 2 extend between a suction cylinder and a press cylinder, past a suction box, between a suction cylinder and a grooved cylinder, between a box fed with compressed air and a suction box, and between two press cylinders. In a third embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the formed sheet is transferred from a twin wire section to a wire which extends round a drying cylinder.
