Abstract

1290904 Papermaking BELOIT CORP 24 Nov 1969 [13 Feb 1969] 57399/69 Heading D2A In a twin-wire, vertical paper machine as shown, headbox 11 discharges stock between breast rolls 13, 14 into the area between wires F 1 , F 2 . In the forming zone, foils 15, arranged alternately and spaced downwardly change the direction of travel first one way then the other. The change must be greater than 5‹. The web may then be further dewatered by suction box 21, couched onto pickup felt PF by roll 24, and carried thereon through first wet press 25, 26, and then on to further stages. Rolls 22 and 23 may be driven as shown at M 1 , M 2 . Savealls 27, doctors 13b', 14b' and 26a, and broke conveyor C may be provided. The foils preferably have a planar trailing portion which diverges away from the wire sharply enough for there to be no pumping effect. The foils are preferably coated on their wire-contacting parts with a ceramic or refractory.
