Abstract

1452208 Paperlmaking machines VALMET OY 15 March 1974 [23 March 1973] 11549/74 Heading D2A A twin-wire paper-making machine forming section comprises a web-carrying wire 1, a webcovering wire 2, a web-forming roll 4 at which the wires 1, 2 converge to define a throat 12 and which has a foraminous mantle and a suction sector #, a headbox 11 for supplying pulp to the throat, and a couch roll 5 having a foiraminous mantle and a suction sector γ around which the wires pass before separating, the wires being guided, e.g. by rolls 10 and foil 14, over a non- linear path between rolls 4, 5 along which the web 3 is dewatered through both wires, at least one positionally-adjustable guide roll 8a, 7b being provided such that the conveyence angle and length of the throat can be adjusted. The mesh of wire 2 may be finer than that of wire 1 to achieve 'equal dewatering through both wires The web is drained centrifugally at roll 4 and also by the suction sector # within the roll, the sector either being connected to a vacuum source or creating its own suction effect using foil-shaped seals 16. Deflector 13 and foil 14 drain the web between rolls 4, 5 and the suction sector γ within couch roll 5 completes the dewatering. Save-alls 15a, 15b collect white water for recycling. A further adjustable guide roll 7a acts as a couch press roll to aid dewatering.
