Abstract

463,188. Wet-press arrangements in paper-making machines. MILLSPAUGH, W. H. Aug. 23, 1935, No. 23696. [Class 96] In a cylinder or Fourdrinier paper-making machine, above the upper run of the first wet press felt 3, and subsequent to the first wet press 8, 9, is a second web press having an upper plain roll 11, and a lower roll 10 with a lower stationary suction transfer box 12, and an upper stationary water and air-withdrawal suction box 13, the second wet press felt 14 passing between the roll 10 and the felt 3 and back through the bite of the second wet press 10, 11. The pulp web A may leave the felt 14 at the bite 10, 11 and travel about the plain roll 11 as shown, or it may travel on with the felt for some distance, in which case, the upper suction zone extends through the bite to hold the web down to the felt. The web A may pass directly to the drying plant, or intermediately through a smoothing press. The invention differs from that described in Specification 18079/11, [Class 96], in that the smoothing effect of the roll 11 on the wire side of the web occurs whilst the web is sufficiently wet. The drive of the rolls 8 and 10 may be synchronized as described in Specification 458,757.
