Abstract

531,879. Wet presses of paper-making machines. MILLSPAUGH, Ltd., HEYS, R.C., and DIXON, W. B. Aug. 8, 1939, No. 22829. [Class 96] In a paper-making machine a suction press of two or more rolls 1, 2 includes a roll with a stationary suction box 3a acting on the felt 4 and web 5 approaching the nip, expressed water being drawn out of uncovered holes 1a in the roll shell by a suction box 3b or, in modifications, such water is blown out by a box either inside or outside of the roll shell and may be caught by a tray. The box 3b operates on one or two lines of the holes 1a at a time, and its suction is e.g 10 inches water gauge, that of the box 3b being e.g. at 15 to 20 inches of mercury. The press may be vertical, horizontal or inclined, and the suction rolls of uncovered or rubber covered metal.
