Abstract

492,143. Suction rolls of paper-making machines. RUSSELL, D., and HAPPER, J. R. Feb. 26, 1938, No. 6123. [Class 96] A suction roll of a paper-making machine has a stationary shaft 1 connected with a suction pump &c., and perforations 2 between walls 6 of a suction compartment opposite that part of the shell 3 embraced by the felts 5, and is wound with two opposed wire-helices 10 lying partly in grooves of the shell 3, to spread the felt 5 and allow some air to enter between the shell and felt to aid in drying the felt. Packing may be interposed between the walls 6 and the shell 3.
