Abstract
1,130,607. Drying apparatus. BLACK CLAWSON CO. 25 Oct., 1965 [26 Oct., 1964; 1 Sept., 1965], No. 45149/65. Heading F4G. [Also in Division D2] In a press-section of a paper-making machine a paper web is passed on a felt through the nip between an imperforate first press roll and an imperforate second press roll, there being a third press roll in engagement with the second roll on the opposite side to the first roll, the second roll being substantially smaller than the other two rolls. The first and third press rolls may lie in an horizontal or vertical plane with the second roll preferably adjustably lying just outside of this plane. The third roll is driven, and has an elastomeric covering. The second roll is preferably helically grooved. The first roll may have a " helper " drive particularly to assist in starting the press. In modifications, the third roll may be a suction roll and/or the felt by itself may pass through the nip formed by the second and third rolls, or the first roll may be a drier drum.
