Abstract
728,687. Suction cleaning-rolls of papermaking machines &c. HALL & KAY, Ltd. April 13, 1953 [Nov. 6, 1952], No. 27930/52. Class 96. A roll for drying and cleaning felts of papermaking machines &c. is divided into sectors 11 by longitudinal walls 12 braced by partitions 21 and extending between a hollow shaft 13 and a coarse wire helix 19. The partitions 21 are apertured at 22, and have ribs 23 providing additional support for the wire 19. Suction is applied from an apertured, fixed plate at an end of the roll through, e.g. three of the sectors 11, through the spaces between the convolutions of the wire 19 and through the belt. The endplate, which makes an air-tight joint with rest of the roll may be faced with self-lubricating material &c.
