Abstract

774,185. Drying paper. BOWATERS DEVELOPMENT & RESEARCH, Ltd. April 15, 1955 [April 15, 1954], No. 11225/54. Class 96. A paper web A is blown against the surfaces of drier drums 1c, 1d, &c., and moisture is removed from it, by air supplied from a main 5 having a series of valves 16 spaced along it, each valve 16 controlling a circumferentially disposed pipe 6 branched at 7 to supply ducts 8 within a section of a hood 2 and having openings 9 adjacent the paper A. Each section is exhausted through a pipe 10 to an exhaust manifold 18. The exhaust air may be dried, compressed and re-circulated. Rubber sealing-strips may bear on rolls 12 at the approach and discharge edges of the hood, or a short length of felt may be directed towards the approach edge. The paper may be entrained about some cylinders 1b &c. by supporting felts 17.
