Abstract

400,013. Drying paper. MILNE, S., 38, Lauder Road, Edinburgh. Dec. 10, 1932, No. 35036. [Class 96.] In a paper-machine of the " Yankee " or M.G. type with or without preheating cylinders, a large quantity of air is blown on to the paper at positions spaced over a considerable portion of the cylinder a to displace steam and vapour from the vicinity of the surface of the paper. such air, steam and vapour being allowed free escape between the conduits. The air is forced by a fan g through a heater i and a chamber h to a compartment d, at the middle or on one or both sides of the machine, communicating with pipes e having slits or perforations which direct the air towards the paper at an angle which may be adjustable. An exhaust fan may be fitted, e.g. with plant for utilizing the heat of the exhaust air ; the heater i may comprise a battery of steam pipes on the inlet or outlet side of the fan g and may be omitted, or shut off on dry days ; the supply to pipes e may be controlled individually by valves.
