Abstract

The Specification differs from the parent Specification in that only some of the hoods of a series of heated drying cylinders are divided in sections to enable the removal of moisture to be controlled differentially across the width of the web. These hoods may be of the type described in Specification 934,757. The other hoods are not divided into sections and have the drying fluid concentrated on the centre of the web. The hot air for the hoods may be obtained from a suction device or may be heated directly by flue gases or indirectly by steam, or fluid heated by an oil fired furnace. The series of cylinders also contain cylinders without either type of hood (Figs. 2 and 3 not shown).
