Abstract

545,406. Suction rolls of paper - making machines. AKTIEBOLAGET KARLSTADS MEKANISKA WERKSTAD. July 28, 1941, No. 9577. Convention date, Aug. 1, 1940. [Class 96] The suction chamber 4 of a suction roll 1 of a paper-making machine has an opening 10, the width of which is adjusted by movement of a shield 9 pivoted at 20 to arms 11 on a shaft 12 which can be turned whilst the machine is running. Atmospheric pressure on the outer face of the shield 9 tends to turn it about the pivot 20 thus pressing the packing 8 against the shell of the roll and a packing strip 18 against the outside of the chamber 4 to ensure a tight seat at both places. Both sides of the opening 10 may be provided with shields which may be movable in unison. An adjustable divisional wall between two suction openings may be used.
