Abstract
542,512. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and FENEMORE, A. S. July 29, 1940, No. 12304. [Class 35 ] [ Also in Group XIX] In machines having swinging frames, the frame is apertured to admit cooling air and the supply conduit is provided with a flange or shield conforming to the cylindrical surface of the frame so that the aperture or apertures are never uncovered. The swinging frame 1 has a cylindrical outer surface which is apertured at 1a to admit cooling air from a supply trunk 2. The latter has flanges 2a which follow the curvature of the frame and extend on either side of the aperture an amount beyond the maximum angular movement of the casing with a small clearance between flange and casing. Where the angular movement is not confined by stops, but is a measure of the torque, the flanges extend to form a belt around the casing and the frame has several apertures 1a. Alternatively the belt extends around the casing but is widened at the admission part to form a part annular chamber.
