Abstract

458,759. Wet presses of paper-making machines. MILLSPAUGH, W. H., 101, Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, Ohio, U.S.A. June 21, 1935, No. 17903. [Class 96] In a Yankee or M.G. paper-machine, a wet web of pulp is transferred from the wire-cloth 1 to a press felt 12 and passes with it and a second press felt 15 through the bites of superposed wet press rolls 6, 9, 11 the web being subjected at each bite simultaneously to pressure and suction, the boxes 8, 10 applying suction in opposite directions through the web to draw expressed water and air through it, the web being then delivered with low water-content to the dryer press roll 5 and drum 4. A suction roll independent of the wet presses may transfer the web to the felt 12, in which case the suction box 7 is omitted, and the wire-cloth 1 may return about the roll 2, the roll 3 being omitted. The web and felts 12, 15 may pass about a roll 18. The upper, plain roll 11 may be of bronze, granite, wood, &c., and the rolls 6, 9 of bronze, the roll 9 may also have a rubber covering 9a, at least the outer portion being soft. A synchronized drive for the felt 12 and wirecloth 1 may be as disclosed in Specification 458,757, and that for the two rolls 6, 9, as described in Specification 458,756.
