Abstract

1362566 Paper-making apparatus KIMBERLY-CLARK CORP 15 July 1971 [27 July 1970] 33385/71 Heading D2A A wet fibrous web 9 is carried by a felt 4 to a rotary Yankee dryer 16 through the nip between the dryer and a suction press roll 15 a non-rotatable deflector 20 being provided at the outgoing side of the nip to direct the felt away from the roll 15 to inhibit rewetting of the fabric by liquid thrown tangentially from the roll 15. The suction zone 18 of the roll 15 terminates adjacent the centre of the nip to facilitate the transfer of the web to the dryer. The roll 15 has a shrink sleeve cover 17. From the deflector 20 the felt passes through the nip between a grooved suction roll 25 and the dryer 16 to further dewater the web. The web is formed between a forming wire and the felt as they pass round a forming roll, Fig. 1 (not shown), and thereafter the web and the felt pass via hydrofoil vacuum boxes and a Beta gauge to the roll 15 and the dryer 16 from which the web is creped by a blade. The felt passes from the roll 25 back to the forming roll via cleaning apparatus including water showers, small-radius reversing rolls associated with water collecting pans and suction boxes. The deflector 20 is adjustable about a pivot 56 by nuts engaging a bolt 61, Fig. 4 (not shown). It may be made of polyethylene. The roll 15 is cleaned by an air-knife, Fig. 6 (not shown). The web may be formed on a Fourdrinier wire.
