Abstract

596,594. Cylinder paper - making machines. BELOIT IRON WORKS. Feb. 19, 1945, No. 4140. Convention date, March 11, 1944. [Class 96] The web W from one or more cylinder moulds 11 is carried on a pick-up felt 12 to a roll 16 of a horizontal suction press, a cover felt 33 being directed on to the web at the suction zone A, which extends past the nip N ; there may also be a suction zone C in the press roll 17 also covering the nip N, so that water expressed. from the web is withdrawn through a felt on each side of it. A further suction zone B of the roll 16 controlled by a valve 24 holds the felts and web W to the roll 16. Trays 35, 36 catch water released from the shells of the rolls 16, 17 after leaving the suction zones C, B, the tray 35 also catching water draining under gravity. The return run of the felt 33 may be pressed at 34, 37, and subjected to suction at 38. Jacks 27 control the pressure at the nip N. In a modification the valve 24 of the suction zone B is shut, and the web W and felts are directed over a valve-controlled suction zone extending from the suction zone C to a like zone at the top of the roll 17 where the web W &c. is compressed between the roll 17 and a top plain roll.
