Abstract
652,747. Suction rolls of paper-making machines. MILLSPAUGH, Ltd., and HEYS, R. C. Jan. 14, 1948, No. 1082. [Class 96] [Also in Group XIII] Perforated rolls 1 and 2 for the drying stack of a paper-making machine each contain a suction-box 21 and high-velocity air conduits 24, the box 21 covering an arc of about 180 degrees and the conduits 24 being placed before and after the box where the paper web 7 is about to meet or has just left the roll. Between the box 21 and each conduit 24 and between the conduits 24 there may be an arc over which neither suction nor high-velocity air is applied. The suction-box may be sub-divided along the roll. Heating shoes 43 and 45 may be fitted to traverse the web 7 to dry wet streaks. Pressing rolls 65 and 63 may co-operate with the perforated rolls. A felt 8 may be confined to the top rolls of the stack and a felt 9 to the bottom rolls and endless felts or wires 11 and 13 may pass around rolls 1 and 2 and tensioning rolls 12 and 14. In a modified stack both felts with the paper between them may pass from a perforated roll in one tier to a similar roll in the other tier and heating shoes may contact the felts between the rolls. A pressing roll may direct a felt to a perforated roll.
