Abstract

400,624. Wet pressing in cylinder paper making machines. SUTHERLAND, W. H., York, and ELLIS, C. L., Bradford Hills, both in Pennsylvania, U.S.A. April 27, 1932, No. 12112. Convention date, Sept. 29, 1931. [Class 96.] The pulp web formed on a cylinder papermaking machine is transferred to a felt and passes to water-extracting means to prepare it for the wet presses, such means including a screen roll directly contacting with the web and supporting it during the water extraction. Rolls 12, Fig. 6, compress the felt 13 and web on the forming cylinders 11, the pressure being adjustable by weights and levers. Rolls 15, 15a which extract water prior to the passage of the web through the first main press 122. which may be a suction press, are of the construction shown in Fig. 4 and co-operate with press rolls P, 21 also with adjustable pressure, and may operate in vats and be cleaned by water sprays 18a and partly dried by air jets 19a. The web and felt may be turned back over the forming-part of the machine about one of the water-extracting rolls which may be a suction roll.
