Abstract
766,959. Heating air by direct contact with combustion gases. AKTIEBOLAGET BAHCO. Feb. 7, 1955 [March 31, 1954], No. 3581/55. Class 64(1) In an oil-fired heater emitting a mixture of combustion gases and heated air, e.g. for drying, a combustion chamber 1, 5, 4 of circular cross-section is surrounded by a coaxial cylindrical casing 7, so as to define an annular mixing chamber 11, and a fan 15 at one end of the mixing chamber 11 draws air into that chamber through its opposite end, and also draws combustion gases from the combustion chamber into the mixing chamber through a passage 6 so directed that the combustion gases and air are in counter-current when they meet, to promote turbulence. The air to be heated is drawn from inlets 17 in an outer casing 3. The oil burner projects into the combustion chamber through a tube 13. A flame-observation pipe 16 with a cover glass is provided. A partition 22 reduces radiation from the end wall 21 of the combustion chamber to the fan, the motor and shaft of which are cooled by air drawn through openings in its hub 19 from an inlet 20.
