Abstract
581,028. Hot-water boilers; heating air. FABER, O., and KELL, J. R. June 7, 1944, No. 10945. [Classes 64 (i) and 64 (iii)] A combined hot water and air heater for a house comprises a furnace with a refractory lining 1, a hot water cylinder 8 supported and heated by the furnace, a smoke flue 9 passing through the cylinder, a heatradiating casing 14 enclosing and spaced from the cylinder, inlet means for admitting air to the space between the cylinder and the casing, and outlet means to discharge the air from the casing into, a duct leading to other parts of the house. The outlet may also be connected to a grating in the room containing the heater. The casing 14 may also partly surround the furnace. A fan may be provided in the air inlet or outlet. The part of the flue 9 above the cylinder 8 may have fins 10, or may be enlarged, conically or otherwise, to present a greater heating surface to the air. The flue 9 is arranged eccentrically, and a second flue passing through the air space only may be provided. The flue 9 may have a jacket containing water or other heat transfer liquid. The furnace may be of the magazine type, or burn oil or gas. An electric immersion heater may be provided. According to the Provisional Specification, the outer casing may be square in section.
