A heater for supplying warm air, or warm air and water, for space heating and hot water for domestic use comprises an air passage formed between side walls of a casing and the inner walls 27, 32 of water-filled headers 25, 26, a number of heat exchangers extending across the passage each comprising an inner tube 66 within an outer tube 68 the combustion products of burner 37 flowing through the inner tube and water flowing through the annular space between the tubes from header 25 to header 26, air being forced by a fan through the passage over the outer tubes of the heat exchangers, and water for domestic use being heated by passage through a coil in one of the headers. The combustion gases pass from the burner 37 through combustion tubes 55, 52 into a chamber 58 having a cover 60 filled with heat insulating refractory material, and then pass through the tubes 66 to a header 38 and flue pipe 39. Water flowing from header 25 to header 26 through the heat exchangers returns through pipe 69 and this water may be led off for space heaters. The air is blown by the fan through opening 40, through the air passage and leaves through opening 50 which may be connected to delivery ducts, and return ducts are connected to the fan housing. The outer tubes are provided with external fins and the heat exchangers are inclined as shown in Fig. 1 to facilitate convection. The burner is controlled by a thermostat in the header 26 and the fan by a room thermostat.
