Abstract

1,271,485. Air heating apparatus. SIDNEY CUBBAGE (ENGS.) Ltd. 24 Nov., 1970 [19 March, 1970], No. 13438/70. Heading F4S. Hot gases from an oil-fired combustion unit 13 flow through a radiator 35 on their way to the flue 37, the radiator and the combustion unit being positioned within a chamber 10, e.g. a kiln, and the chamber air being circulated by a fan 42 over the radiator. The radiator shown comprises upright finned tubes extending between headers 35a and 35b, the header 35a being supplied with hot gases from the combustion unit 13 via a connection 34. The combustion chamber of the unit 13 projects outwardly beyond the rear wall of the chamber 10 (Fig. 3), where a control valve (26) enables the amount of excess air admitted to the combustion space and mixing with the combustion gases to be controlled; thereby regulating the temperature of the combustion products and so controlling the amount of heat emitted by the radiator to the chamber air. A thermostat may be provided to cut off the burner if the combustion chamber becomes too hot, e.g. due to failure of the fan.
