Abstract

748,589. Valves and fuel injectors; valve guides. JONES, R. D. Aug. 9, 1954 [May 14, 1954]., No. 14137/54. Classes 7(2), 7(3) and 7(6) A fuel injection valve L is situated in a. bore in the stem of an inlet or exhaust valve J . the head of which has secured therein a seating member U for the valve L. The valve L is provided with fluted guide pieces K and is integral with a spring-loaded piston C sliding in a cylinder R screwed on to the end of the valve stem. The fuel is supplied through a connection D and acts upon the piston C to lift the valve' off its seat U, the fuel flowing to the valve seat through the bore surrounding the valve L. The spring-loading of the piston C is adjusted by a screw T and fuel leaking past the piston C is removed through a pipe B. The valve J is provided with a spring abutment plate G attached to a plate F secured on to the valve stem, the plate G being guided by ferrules O bolted to the cylinder head by bolts P . The valve J is operated by a forked cam-operated valve lever engaging the plate F.
