[Class 106 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIX] An apparatus for indicating the pressure existing in an internal-combustion engine comprises means including a pipe line for supplying fluid, such as oil, under pressure to the combustion space of the engine against the maximum pressure therein, a pressure indicator and a high speed non-return valve interposed between the combustion space and the pressure indicator for controlling the passage of the fluid to the indicator. The apparatus, Fig. 1, includes a pressure gauge 6 and a high-speed non-return valve 4 between the gauge and the engine check valve 5 adapted to control the supply to the gauge from a pipe line 3 supplying fluid from a pump 1 to the engine. The valve body 4, Fig. 3, is arranged in the pipe line 3, 3a to the engine, nut glands 15 and packing 16 making a tight joint. Perpendicular to the bore 9 is another bore 20 leading to the space 21 and provided with a seating for a spring steel disc 34 forming the valve. A plug 24 having a bore 28 screws into the valve body and at the reduced lower end is provided with transverse channels 33 communicating with the space 21. The plug 24 is'recessed at 30 to receive with a force fit a hardened steel insert 31. The plug is secured to a pipe 7 leading to the pressure gauge. In the application to a multi-cylinder engine, a separate valve 4 and pressure indicator 6 is provided for each cylinder, the fluid being supplied by a power-operated pump.
