Abstract

725,212. Fuel injectors. NAPIER & SON, Ltd., D. May 11, 1953, No. 13030/53. Class 7 (3). A fuel injector comprises a housing member 14 and a separately formed nozzle piece 11, and a spring-loaded injection valve 16 has a stem sliding in a bore in the member 14 and an enlarged head 26 which lies within a pressure chamber 18 and engages an abutment in the chamber 18 to limit the lift of the valve, a flat seating portion 27 on which normally closes the injection passage 12 leading to spray apertures 13. When the valve is lifted by fuel pressure, the head 26 engages the upper wall of the chamber 18, whereby the lift of the valve is limited and a seal is formed preventing fuel leaking along the valve stem. The valve is positioned eccentric of the axis of the cylindrical part of the member 14 to provide room for a fuel supply bore 20 leading to the chamber 18 and the members 14, 11, are mounted within a screwed sleeve 5 which is clamped within a second mounting sleeve 1 by a clamping ring 8. Gas tight joints are formed by sealing rings 3 and a screw threaded pressure ring 4.
