739,688. Valves. DIAS, G. R. April 28, 1954, No. 12269/54. Class 135. In a valve having a closure member 10 operable by a spindle 24 having a screw-threaded end co-operable with a screw-threaded blind bore 11 in the member, rotation of the member is prevented whilst permitting unrestricted movement toward and away from its seat by the engagement of a non-circular, e.g. square depending shank 12 with a correspondingly shaped hole in a washer 16 mounted on spigots formed on a plug 14. A disc 25 formed on, or secured to, the spindle 24 co-operates with the underside of a cover 21 to prevent leakage from the valve body. The disc 25 which may have a soft ring insert is urged into contact with the cover by a spring 19 and/or the pressure of the controlled fluid.
