Abstract
880,562. Valves. BUCKLEY, A. B. Jan. 2, 1959 [Jan. 31, 1958; Feb. 21, 1958; March 19, 1958; Sept. 24, 1958], Nos. 3341/58, 5787/58, 8868/58 and 30588/58. Class 135. A bib tap, of the kind having a closure member 5 associated with an operating member such as a rotatable screwed hand knob 19 by way of a spindle 2 which is axially slidably housed in the tap body, the spindle together with the closure member being withdrawable through an opening in the tap body, and having sealing means 4 between the spindle and the body, incorporates composite stroke limiting means coacting with the body for preventing withdrawal of the spindle and closure member, this stroke limiting means being constituted by interacting parts movable with the spindle and arranged for relative displacement when desired from the exterior of the tap to render the stroke limiting means inoperative without interference with the opening and closing of the tap. An axially removable pin 26 in the spindle normally retains a loose ball detent 29 in engagement with a longitudinal groove 21 in the body to limit the lift of the valve and prevent withdrawal of the spindle and closure member. An external end of this pin is covered by a cap 34 which is assembled over a few threads 33 from which it drops free to rest on the knob 19. On removal of the spindle and closure member, an extension pin 10 of these parts allows a lenticular disc valve 13 to contact a seat 12 to shut off the flow. This disc tilts under the rush of fluid to permit normal flow and may have an offcentre bearing on the pin 10. The disc may be buoyant or be replaced by a non-buoyant loose ball. Specification 761,584 is referred to.
