737,770. Pipe joints. STEWARTS & LLOYDS, Ltd. July 6, 1954 [Aug. 31, 1953], No. 23989/53. Class 99 (1). In a pipe joint wherein the externally threaded ends of a pair of adjacent pipes are inter-connected by a sleeve c, and the pipes a are lined with a coating of bitumen b, an axially-deformable sealing-ring d, embodying an annular groove e and made from rubber, rubber-like or synthetic plastic material or zinc, is located between the pipe ends. The pipe ends are formed with tapered screw-threads and the ring d, which has a semi-circular and rectangular or triangular section, may incorporate annular extensions f which overlap and tightly fit the inner pipe-surfaces. The joint may also include a bush g of bituminous rubber, rubber-like or other non-corrodible material when the gap between the pipe ends is greater than that which can be closed by the ring d.
