Abstract

Heading E2F A flexible pivotal joint comprises an inner rigid casing 2 provided with a flange 11, 12 at each end, an intermediate elastic sleeve 3 located between the flanges and in contact with an outer casing 1, an anti-friction sheath 20 between the elastic sleeve and the inner casing, and two annular discs 21 located between the ends of the elastic sleeve and the flanges 11, 12 to keep the sleeve in axial compression. The sheath may be made in two parts, as shown, separated axially by a gap 22, the discs 21 being formed as flanges on the sheath, or a single sheath slightly shorter than the sleeve 3 may be provided, the discs in this case being made separately. Small anti-friction rings 13, 14 may be inserted between the discs and the flanges to facilitate running-in of the joint, the rings and discs being made preferably of polytetrafluoroethylene. Lips 24 on the sleeve 3 and inwardly bent edges on the flanges 11, 12 may be provided as dust traps.
