Abstract

960,274. Pipe joints. CONEX-TERNA Ltd., and F. WHITWORTH. Feb. 6, 1962 [Feb. 8, 1961], No. 4630/61. Heading F2G. A pipe joint comprises a hollow supporting member 11 on which a nut 13 having a tapered thread is slidably mounted. The supporting member 11 forms an interference fit within a synthetic resin pipe 10 the nut being screwed on to the end of the pipe 10 to effect the joint. The nut possesses an inwardly-projecting flange 17 which co-operates with a stop 12 formed in the outer surface of member 11. In the construction shown the included angle of the taper should be not more than 10 degrees and is preferably 8 degrees. The flange 17 includes a gap so that the nut 13 may slide over stop 12. The end of member 11 co-operating with pipe 10 is slightly flared outwardly or tapered inwardly. A beading may be provided adjacent the end of member 11 with which flange 17 of nut 13 co-operates.
