Abstract

1,133,351. Pipe joints. W. E. STEVENS. 2 Sept., 1966 [8 Sept., 1965], No. 38468/65. Heading F2G. A pipe joint comprises a pair of aligned pipe ends 5, a pair of collars 8 on said pipe ends, each of said collars being formed by two half-shells 9 and having an internal circumferential rib 10 engaging a corresponding circumferential groove 6 in the pipe ends to operatively connect the collars to the pipe ends, and a sleeve 12, which is rotatable over the collars and which is provided with screw members 14 for urging the collars together whereby said pipe ends are drawn towards one another. The interior surface of the sleeve is of constant diameter from end to end of the sleeve. The screw members 14 have threaded portions engaging the sleeve and tapered end portions 15 engaging external V-shaped peripheral grooves 18 in the collars, said screw members extending at an acute angle to the sleeve axis. The pipe end faces stand proud of the collars and a T-shaped gasket 16 is disposed between the opposed collar and pipe end faces.
