Abstract

1,166,612. Joint-making packing; pipe and rod couplings. BTR INDUSTRIES Ltd. 4 Oct., 1966 [5 Oct., 1965; 27 April, 1966], Nos. 42242/65 and 18478/66. Headings F2B and F2G. A pipe coupling comprises a first member 58 having a spigot 60 with a plain cylindrical portion 63 and a threaded portion 61 mating with an internal thread 62 on a second member 59 and a gasket 50 which has two annular knife-edge section ridges 52, 53 and an internal thread 54 mating with the threaded portion 61 whereby in use the gasket is first threaded over the spigot until it is freely rotatable on the portion 63 and the members 58, 59 are then screwed together to cause the ridges 52, 53 to bite in the opposing faces 56, 57 of the members. In a modification, the ridges are on the opposing faces of the members and bite into the gasket.
