Abstract

1331236 Pipe couplings; shaft couplings DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 21 June 1971 [28 April 1970] 20248/70 Headings F2G and F2U Two members, such as pipes 1, 2, are connected by a self-locking device in which a nut 12 is screwed on to a resilient externally threaded sleeve 10 having deformed threads 15 at the end of the sleeve which is last to be engaged by the nut. As the nut is tightened, flange portions 3, 6 on the members are drawn together and sealed by a ring 5 accommodated in a recess 4. The deformed portion 15 of the sleeve which in the embodiment shown is integral with the member 1, is urged by the nut into a round shape and contacts the nut resiliently to lock the members together. In another embodiment, both members have end flanges and the resilient sleeve (21) (Fig. 2, not shown) is a separate member which has an abutment flange (22) lying behind the member flange (20). Inter-engaging dogs (23) on the flange (22) and flange (20) prevent rotation of the sleeve (21) on the pipe.
