Abstract

736,925. Door-operating apparatus. BATLEY, E. June 28, 1954 [July 18, 1953], No. 19983/53. Class 65(1). In a garage or like door 1 which is opened by lifting up its lower edge and pushing the door to an overhead horizontal position along tracks 2 mounted within the garage near the ceiling, a pair of levers 9 are provided, each of which is pivoted to a plate 11 and to a lower part of the door 1, tension springs 15 being provided each of which is pivoted to a lever 9 and also to plate 11 so that the springs 15 turn with the levers 9 and are extended as the door is lowered to a closed position to counterbalance the weight of the door. A number of holes 19 in each lever 9 allow selective connection of the spring 15 to the lever, and the pivots of springs 15 and levers 9 are so arranged that an overcentre action is provided, the springs tending to retain the door 1 in both the fully open and fully closed positions.
