Abstract
584,634. Service hatches. GRIMSHAW, G. Jan. 12, 1945, Nos. 1067 and 5409. [Class 20 (iii)] Doors b, b' hinged at the respective ends of a service hatch are connected by links c, c' to a counterbalanced slider d movable in vertical guides e so that when either door is opened or closed the other is also opened or closed. In closing the doors, cams c<2> on the links c, c' enter between and pass under blade springs k, thereby assisting the closing and opening of the doors and holding them in the closed position. The doors may, however, be held closed by catches and opened by a swing bar (not shown) longer than the distance between the doors, being pulled into a position perpendicular to them and thus forcing them open. The slider is cushioned in its downward movement by contacting the head of a spring-biassed pin o, and a flap m pivoted to the door b' fills the gap between the hinges when the doors are open and provides a smooth uninterrupted surface with the doors for serving purposes, the flap being flexibly connected to the pin o as shown and having its free edge engaged by the door b.
