Abstract

Hinges arranged to act alternatively at either side of door, flap, and the like; securing flaps in a given relative position.-A casement which may be opened on either side of the frame is provided on each sash stile with hinges having a leaf 5 formed with a bulge 6 normally engaged by a third pivoted leaf 10, but detachable therefrom by a device so that either side of the casement may be freed and the other hinged. The device comprises a wedge 11 on the back of each leaf 10, and wedges 12 on a vertical rod 13 at each side. The rods 13 can be raised by a lever (not shown), and are caused to move in opposite directions by a rod 17 suitably guided and engaging wedges 15 on the rods. To hold a rod up on an open side, a pivoted stop 19 is turned by a spring 23 when the projection 20 on the sash is removed, and a lip 24 on the arm 18 is moved under a nib piece 25 on the rod 13. When the sash is closed, the stop 19 turns and its arm 18 is disengaged from the rod 13 and engages a notch 22 to lock the sash. As modifications, the sliding rods 13 may be replaced by a rotary device, and the hinges may be fixed to the frame and the operating devices to the sash.
