Stays.-In a combined stay and fastener for casement windows and like hinged structures in which the relatively movable plate stay-members 1, 2 are secured in an adjusted position by a spring- pressed pawl 6 on one plate engaging with the notched edge 4 of the other plate, the plate 2 secured to the window sill supports a pivoted and notched extension arm 7 that is moved into a position to form a continuation of the notched part 4 when the window is opened beyond a predetermined extent, and is moved into a closed or inoperative position when the window is closed again. The staypart 7 is moved into its extended position as the window is opened by the pawl 6 pressing against a point 7<b>. The end 7<c> is rounded so as to engage with and be moved from its extended position when the window is being closed from its widely-open position. The notches 4<b> provide tor the window to be held in an adjusted open position by engagement with the pawl, the notch 4<a> providing for the window being secured in the closed position. A stop on the free end of the arm 7 serves to engage with an extension of the pawl and limit the opening movement of the window. Finger lugs 8, 9 are provided on the rail 3 and pawl 6 respectively. The sill plate 2 is positioned as shown and its notched arms are curved about the axis of the hinge H as a centre.
