Abstract

197,375. Ellis, C. P. Feb. 7, 1922. Catches yielding to pull and pressure. - Sliding doors are held in an adjusted position by means of a pivoted spring-pressed catch member on the door or frame for engagement with wide notches on the frame or door respectively, the catch being arranged to yield when pressure is applied to the door in either direction. As applied to the front edge of a slidable door, the catch comprises a member 1 pivoted at 1 and with right-angled adjacent edges on an extension piece adapted to be engaged by a coiled spring 2. Movement of the door to the right causes the catch to rock on its pivot by engagement with the walls of the notch 4, the pivot pin 1 being depressed against the action of the spring during this movement. The spring restores the catch into a door-holding position when the door stops with one of the notches above the catch. A similar movement occurs when the movement of the door is reversed, a slot 3 housing the catch during the trailing movement. The catch may be rendered inoperative by forming it with an additional flat surface 1<h> for engagement with the plate 2 above the spring 2.
