Sliding bolts; fastenings for sliding windows.- A device for holding a sliding window in any position comprises a spring-pressed bolt F slidably carried on pins E, E<1> in the lower channel member of the window and adapted to engage a perforated bar I in the frame. The bolt is released for raising the window by a guided rod N connected to a shouldered member pivoted on the pin E<1>, the shoulders L<2> engaging one of the projections M. Continued movement of the rod in either direction releases the bolt and operates the window. In a modification, the bolt is carried in a housing secured to the channel and has a projection engaged by a pivoted cam connected to the operating-handle so that movement in either direction releases the bolt and operates the window.
