Abstract

376,853. Sliding-window fastenings and holders. RAWLINGS MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., 1, Larch Road, Balham and DUTFIELD, A. E., The Cottage, Fayland Avenue, Streatham Park, both in London. April 22, 1931, No. 11943. [Class 44.] Pivoted toothed o r corrugated members carried by the sides of a sliding window engage racks in the window channels and are released by vertically sliding members operated by rocking a transverse shaft carried by the window. Alternatively, the racks may be on the window and the transverse shaft &c. on a stationary part. A continuously acting braking or antirattle device may be provided. Fig. 3 shows a form in which both locking and release movements of the pivoted members 38 are effected through spring means. A compression spring 33 is disposed between the offset lower end of member 38 and a sliding wedge 36 acting on a wedge-form part 37 of member 38 to move this member into engagement with a rack as shown. Release is effected by depression of a rod 32 connected to wedge 36 when a transverse shaft 34 is rocked. Shaft 34 is moved by a finger-piece (not shown), which is gripped against a fixed thumb-piece, (not shown), when the window is to be moved. A braking or anti-rattle device comprises oppositely disposed wedges 41, 42, wedge 41 being fixed to the window and the wedge 42 supported by a rod 43 passing loosely through wedge 41 and surrounded by a spring 44 urging wedge 42 upwards and outwards into engagement with a non-toothed part of the window channel. Rod 43 may be connected by a rod 46 with wedge 36 so that positive release of wedge 42 is effected, or this connection may be omitted, wedge 42 yielding when pressure is applied to move the window. A modification is described in which the lower end of spring 33 bears against a fixed abutment and a separate plate spring is provided to urge member 38 to release position. Fig. 4 shows a form in which the rack is on the window. A catch member 47 pivoted at 48 on a stationary part such as a garnish rail is urged into engagement with the rack by the upward movement of a sliding member 49 under action of a compression spring 50, an inclined portion 49a of the slide engaging a corresponding shoulder 47a of member 47. The transverse shaft 51 has arms 52 which depress member 49 when the shaft is rocked, a pin 53 on member 49 engaging a tail-piece 54 of member 47 to rock the catch out of engagement. Specification 344,566 is referred to.
