Abstract

762,818. Clamps. PFAFFLI. W. Sept. 17, 1954 [April 7, 1954; June 1, 1954], No. 27036/54. Class 61 A clamp comprises a slide 1 having at one of its ends an arm 2 which acts as an abutment or anvil for a plunger 4, 5, which is moxable axially in an arm 3 slidable along the slide 1, there being a lever 7 between the stem 4 of the plunger and a damping lever 10, means for locking the lever and thereby the stem against movement, and a device which renders the locking means ineffective. The lever 10 shown is pivoted at 11 between two plates 12a integral with arm 3, and extends at an acute angle, 30 degrees for example, to the plane through the parts 1, 2, 3. The lever 10 carries a pin 8 for the lever 7 and a pin 18 for a hand lever 17. The latter is normally urged by a spring 19 to bring a pawl 20 thereon into engagement with teeth 22a on the plate 12a, the arrangement being such that when lever 10 is moved clockwise for damping purposes the pawl and teeth lock the parts against movement in the reverse direction. Unlocking is effected by applying pressure to the lever 17. The plate 5 of the plunger is mounted to move with respect to the stem 4 against the action of a spring 27 through a distance greater than that moved by the stem when the pawl moves. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown) a pin extending from the sides of a slot in lever 17 engages in tapering holes in the side plates of the lever 10. A spring acting on lever 17 urges the pin into locking engagement with the curved surface of the plates 12a.
