1369779 Toggle clamps L F BLATT 27 April 1973 [28 Sept 1972] 20082/73 Heading B3B A toggle clamp includes a base 13 mountable upon support F, a pair of spaced guide plates 17, 19 secured upon the base, a clamping arm 29 guidably positioned between and pivotally mounted at 33 upon said plates and terminating in a member 35 for engaging and clamping a workpiece W, an operating lever 37 pivotally mounted at 41 upon said guide plates and terminating in a handle 39, a pair of spaced links 45, 47 pivotally mounted at 49 upon said lever coplanar with guide plates 17, 19 and engaging opposite sides of and pivotally connected at 53 to clamping arm 29, and latch means for securing said operating lever in an inoperative position, the latch means comprising a latch pawl 51 between links 45, 47 and pivotally mounted thereon at 49, for example, and a latch pawl engaging member (pin 25, Fig. 1, plate 25<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2). Resilient means such as a coil spring 59 in pawl 51 bears against the operating lever 37, 39 so that projection 55 on the pawl yieldably engages the handle 39 to keep the latch pawl and member 25, 25<SP>1</SP> engaged (as seen in chain lines in Fig. 1). They may be released by upward movement of handle 39 (in Fig. 1) or by means of a release rod 71, Fig. 2. Rod 71 and handle 39 may be inclined laterally as shown in Fig. 3 (71<SP>1</SP>, 39<SP>1</SP>). The latch pawl engaging members 25, 25<SP>1</SP> may be positioned at any suitable angular position on the arcuate edges of plates 17, 19.
