Abstract

1385772 Hoist clamps INTERPRODUCT NV 11 April 1972 [19 April 1971 1 Feb 1972] 16705/72 Heading B8H [Also in Division E2] A hoist clamp for clamping a plate 11 comprises a toggle lever system 2, 4 pivotally coupled at a pin 3, the lever 2 being pivotally connected to a hoisting eye 7 by means of a pin 6 movable in a slot formed in the side of the clamp, the lever 4 bearing a channel member 40 having a web 39 between which and a wedge 13 the plate 11 is clamped. In the position of the clamp in Fig. 1 in which the plate 11 is clamped a locking mechanism comprising locking members 29, 30 is inoperative, but in the inoperative position of the clamp shown in Fig. 3 the said locking members 29, 30 are operative to hold the clamp in its open condition. The members 29, 30 are movable anti-clockwise from their positions shown in Fig. 3 to that of Fig. 1 by means of a handle 35 connected to a shaft 28 on which the members 29, 30 are mounted, the member 29 engaging a curved surface 37 of the lever 2 and the member 30 engaging a surface part 38 of a lever 25 which is pivotally mounted on a stationary shaft 26, a slot 24 in the lever 25 receiving a pin 23 mounted at the top of the wedge 13. In operation of the clamp to grip the plate 11 the lock members 29, 30 are rotated anti-clockwise and the member 30 disengages from the lever 25 while the member 29 remains in engagement with the lever 2, Fig. 4 (not shown). In this position a spring 21 urges the wedge 13 towards the members 9, 40, and then by further rotation of the handle 35 the member 29 becomes disengaged from the lever 2 of the toggle system whereupon on upward movement of the hoisting eye 7 the wedge 13 co-operates with a stationary block 15 so that the plate 11 is fully clamped between the wedge 13 and the channel member 40. The wedge 13 is formed with a toothed face 14 which, in the position of Fig. 1, engages with a complementary toothed face 16 of the stationary block 15. In the inoperative condition of the clamp shown in Fig. 3 the toothed faces are pressed away from each other by means of a pair of compression springs 18.
