Abstract

246,079. Dehn, F. B., (Budd Manufacturing Co., E. G.). July 17, 1924. Latches, swinging, for the doors of automobiles are retracted by a lever which is pivoted on the same pivot as the latch, and which is so engaged therewith that when the door is slammed, the latch moves independently of the actuating lever. A common spring is provided for the lever and latch. The lever 42 and latch 17 are pivoted on the pin 16 mounted on stamped-up ears 41 of the base plate 10, 11. The two ends of a spring 46 coiled round the pivot maintain the latch and lever in normal position. A pair of lugs 44 on the lever engage arms of the latch to retract it when the lever is actuated. When the door is slammed, a notch 20 in the latch permits of its riding past the striking plate without actuation of the lever. In the form shown in Fig. 6, the lever engages a pin 45 on the latch, to retract it and the lever arm is so curved as to permit free movement of the pin when the door is slammed.
