Abstract

449,250. Door-operating appliances. HEATH SPRING & NOTION CO., Ltd., and HEATH, H. F., St. George's Works, Headless Cross, Redditch, Worcestershire. Dec. 17, 1934, No. 36080. [Class 65 (i)] In spring door-closing apparatus of the kind including an attachment member 6 to which is pivoted an arm 5 adapted to engage behind the door during substantially the whole movement of the latter, with a spring or springs acting between the arm and attachment member, one or more tension springs 17 are used, adapted at one end to be connected to the member 6, as shown, or the arm 5 at any of a number of positions to allow ready adjustment of the spring action. In the form shown the springs are attached to a pin engaging a series of lateral notches in a slot in the member 6 ; the springs are attached at the other end to a pin on the arm 5 which also carries a roller for contact with the door. When the door is fully open, the members 5, 6 are in line, but a stop 11 is provided to prevent the spring from coming into the same line so that a closing force is maintained. This stop 11 may, however, be rotated on the pivot between members 5, 6 so as to allow the spring to assume the dead-centre position so that the door remains open ; the door is provided with a stop bracket to hold the end of the arm 5 against it in this position so that slight movement of the door carries the arm 5 out of the inoperative position to bring the spring into action again.
