893,687. Fireproof sliding doors. EVANS LIFTS Ltd. Jan. 16, 1961 [Jan. 19, 1960], No. 1916/60. Class 20(3) A fireproof sliding door comprises overlapping panels 1-4 each composed of an asbestos core 5 enclosed in a sheet metal shell 6 and mounted in its own trackway. The vertical edges of each panel are provided on opposite sides thereof with hooked flanges 10 which interengage the flanges of adjacent panels when the door is closed. The door is opened and closed by actuation of a stepped arm 14 comprising three sets of two parallel rails 15 joined by cross members 16, which is pivotally mounted on a bracket 21 secured to door frame member 12 and engages grooved rollers 18 which slide in the channel formed between the parallel rails. The rollers are rotatably mounted in brackets 19 attached to the sliding panels. The doors are opened by pivoting arm 14 to its vertical position and the clockwise movement of the arm to close the doors is assisted by a weight 22 and spring buffer stop 24 secured to frame member 12. The door frame is formed by two metal angular members 12 to one of which the panel 1 is secured and the other is provided with metal strips 13 which form a channel to receive the outer margin of panel 4 when the door is closed.
