Abstract

728,813. Universal joints ; clutches. HISPANO SUIZA (SUISSE) SOC. ANON. April 9, 1951 [April 18, 1950], No. 8230/51. Class 80 (2). [Also in Groups IX and XXXIV] In a spinning spindle mechanism of the worm and worm-wheel drive type, a coupling allowing universal movement between a driving sleeve 6 and the spindle 11 comprises a sleeve 15 which is splined at its upper end 16 to the spindle 11 and at its lower end to a ring 18 having teeth 21 engaging centrifugal masses 22. On rotation, the ring 18 is gradually driven due to friction between its periphery and the inner wall of a cup-shaped member 20 secured to the upper end of the sleeve 6. The masses 22 then move outwardly and engage the inner wall of the member 20 without slipping. Specifications 687,688 and 689,596 are referred to.
