Abstract

576,691. Shaft counlings. MACBETH, C. March 3, 1944, No. 4017. [Class 80 (ii)] A flexible coupling particularly for use on a motor cycle between a driving shaft b and a gear or sprocket e comprises a V-shaped ring h of rubber or like resilient material bonded between a flange member c secured to the driving shaft and the driven gear or sprocket e. The gear' or sprocket e is mounted for a limited amount of relative rotation on a bush a secured to the driving shaft so that a resilient drive is obtained but in the event of failure or overload of the rubber a projection f on the gear e engages with either of abutments g on the bush to maintain the drive. A shell i is provided, which may be secured to either the driving or driven member or a stationary part, to cover the rubber ring h to protect it against the action of oil. The ring h may be suitably reinforced if desired.
