Abstract

546,487. Flexible couplings. RUBBER BONDERS, Ltd., and WHITTINGHAM, C. Oct. 7, 1940, No. 7497/42. Divided out of 545,079. [Class 80 (ii)] Relates to couplings of the type such as described, e.g. in Specification 449,684, comprising annular rigid members b, c, Fig. 1 adapted to be connected to a driving or a driven member and a rigid disc a adapted to be connected to the other member, and having its marginal portion interspaced with the annular members and connected to the latter by annular bodies d of resilient material bonded to the opposed faces of the members and disc, wherein the annular members are detachably secured together. According to the invention the annular members are detachably secured together and held in axially spaced relation by means between and connecting their outer margins. These means comprise distance pieces e, Fig. 1 bolted to the members and passing with clearance through elongated notches f in the disc a. The notches are lined with rubber g to provide resilient abutments for the distance pieces should the rubber members d be ruptured. Other forms of coupling and distance pieces are the same as those described in Specification 545,079.
