Abstract

1,036,735. Universal joints. 8. M. USTINOV, and N. D. BOCHKOV. Feb. 1, 1963, No. 4279/63. Heading F2U. A torque transmitting coupling comprises resilient blocks 9, 10 interposed between interpenetrating blades 7, 2 on driving and driven parts 5, 1 and centring means comprising a resilient sleeve 21. fixed to rigid sleeves 19, 20, the outer sleeve 19 being a clearance fit in an aperture in the driving part 5, and the inner sleeve 20 being a clearance fit on a sleeve 11 which is an interference fit in an extension 12 of the driven part 1. The coupling is particularly suitable for coupling marine engines to propeller shafts, and in the normal direction of rotation the blocks 9 are compressed. The blocks 9 may be made twice as thick as the blocks 10, and may be formed by two resilient elements equal in thickness to those forming the blocks 10.
